Top US Locations for Digital Nomads Who Are Looking to Settle Down (At Least for a Bit)

If you are a digital nomad, then you will know the flexibility and freedom that comes with working on your own terms. This is one of the main reasons why digital nomads choose this lifestyle.

Furthermore, you can choose to live and work pretty much wherever you want to. And with so many wonderful locations to choose from to live and work in the US, the digital nomadic lifestyle is one to beat. Today, Lance Cody-Valdez along with Ms. Southernverse shares four top locations for digital nomads.

Austin

Austin is a great place to settle down for a bit (or even permanently) if sunshine and a warm, authentic atmosphere are right up your alley. Properties are relatively easy to come by, too, as both renters and buyers can find suitable properties at affordable prices.

Furthermore, Austin, Texas is a thriving hub of digital nomad entrepreneurs, with many flocking to this area because it is so amenable to this lifestyle.

For example, it has many co-working spaces, plentiful coffee shops, and quick and accessible internet speed for nomads on the go who want to work and explore simultaneously.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville is another place that many digital nomads are calling home because they believe it is simply the best place to be. For one, the weather in Jacksonville, Florida, is second to none (it’s not called The Sunshine State for nothing). Its beaches are simply breathtaking and there is plenty to do for everyone here, no matter if you have just started out working for yourself remotely or if you have been doing it for years.

Again, here you’ll find plenty of co-working spaces to work from. And if you do choose to settle down here, you can find properties to rent easily and affordably.

Furthermore, with the cost of living being lower than average, you’ll probably have plenty left over to do lots of sightseeing and traveling around town.

Charleston

If old-world charm is what you’re after, Busy Tourist notes that Charleston is the place to be. Furthermore, this fun-loving city in South Carolina is a blend of modern and traditional sights and sounds, so you can choose your preference depending on the mood you’re in.

In addition, rentals are freely available here, which can make settling down here much more attractive than in other more densely populated areas where suitable rentals may be scarce.

Plus, there are plenty of move-in-ready rentals available for rent that come with readily available Wi-Fi as well as all the furnishings you need to set up your home quickly and easily so that you can get to work without interruption.

Nashville

Certainly, Nashville is known as being the music scene of the country. But did you know that it is also conducive to digital nomad living too? Nashville is a great place to live and work if you’re looking for a variety of things to do. And offers a range of activities from food markets to bars and restaurants.

This does not even include its outstanding outdoor landscapes, from mountains to forests to lakes; you’re certain to find something to do on the days you decide to take a day off.

Again, housing and rentals are affordable here too, so you won’t struggle to find suitable accommodation if the country scene is your scene.

Best Practices Worth Trying Out

Suppose you have found the location of your dreams and don’t envision yourself moving about anytime soon. Then you could consider starting a new company in your chosen location so that you can reap the many benefits of being a separate legal entity.

For example, if you choose to register your business as an LLC, there are many benefits that come along with using this business structure. Including tax advantages and flexibility in terms of scaling your business one day. There is far less paperwork to contend with, and it has the benefit of limited liability, which means all your personal assets will be protected if your business should fail at some point.

If you are unsure of how to start an LLC, then, as Georgia Today points out, all you need to do is search online for a formation company to assist you with this. Then choose a registered agent who will act on your behalf and who will register your business according to the state legislature you happen to be in. They will also provide you with all the documentation to go over at your convenience once everything has been set up.

Setting Up Shop in a Vacation Home

If you land in a place you plan to revisit routinely, you might want to invest in a vacation home. There are advantages to having a space all set up for your work, including having a fully functioning workstation to ensure you can work from your vacation home without interruption.

Keep in mind that when securing a home loan for a vacation home, most lenders will require a downpayment of 20 percent or more. If living the digital nomad life includes this strategy, start saving now, and be sure to put in plenty of research to see how the local housing market is faring to make sure you can find a place you can afford.

Indeed, being a digital nomad is a career that many envy these days. And it’s no wonder why when you can literally show friends and family why they should perhaps follow in your footsteps to achieve a work-life balance that allows you to travel, work and experience different cultures all in one go.
